Pipe 53 Long Shank Volcano, Semi-blast with Maidou and Amboyna Burl decoration.
This pipe has been made specially for 2010 Kansas Pipe Show Contest, so it is a Special Contest pipe; so I made this pipe so it would fit in my Artistic Pipe Category. Pipe probably is not meant for every day daily smoking (it can be) but the main effort has been made not just to have great smoking ability but also to show craftsmanship and artistic skill.
Graded as: Shape, Beauty and Technical grade: Highest - Cicada Stamp Grain Grade: I don't grade grains in this category, so it is stamped with my Artistic Pipe Category Stamp Three Stars in Tri-Angle.
This is the best of the best pipe category for me, everything has to fit and work together. This is somewhat rare Highest Graded pipe since I'm never satisfied with any of my work - somehow it all came together this time.
Description: I draw my inspiration from Mount St. Helens Volcano which exploded in 80's I think. In couple of weeks after explosion "liquid sandpaper" (hot water with sand from melting snow) carved thru solid stone creating craters, caves, bunkers and all sorts of other crazy forms for a human eye just to wonder...
